Tofu and Cabbage Wraps

Do you have picky eaters at home who shake their heads left and right after looking at vegetables? Well, I have two…Cute and little boys who often tend to say NO to green veggies. What do I do?? Like many other moms, I also try to disguise the food in different ways and offer them in a fancy way to my kids.

These wraps are one of them, filled with Grilled Tofu, Cabbage and few carrots, sauteed in some Chinese sauces and wrapped in tortillas. You can replace  Tofu with Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) or Chicken also.

To make these wraps, first you have to marinate the Tofu in some sauces and then grilled it either
on a non stick Skillet or a grill.
This is also a great option for keeping in your kid’s Lunch box or serve them as an appetizer on a play date. Interestingly , it was little tricky to keep these wraps closed, so I wrapped and tied them with a spring onion green string. Don’t you think that’s a good idea? My kid said ” Mommy its kind of cool!!! 😀

I have used Store bought Tortillas in this recipe, but you can also use Rotis(Indian whole wheat bread) or chappatis to make these wraps. To make more healthier you can use Spinach or Beetroot tortillas too.Lets proceed towards the recipe.

Ingredients
  1. Main Ingredients
  2. 400 gms Extra firm Tofu(or Paneer/Chicken breast)
  3. 2 cups Shredded Cabbage
  4. 2 medium Carrot cut into fingers
  5. 1 small onion sliced
  6. 4-5 garlic cloves chopped
  7. 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  8. 1 tbsp Vinegar
  9. 1 tbsp- chilly garlic sauce ( optional)
  10. 1 tsp Brown sugar
  11. salt and Pepper according to taste.
Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, mix all the sauces and keep aside. Wash and pat dry tofu with a paper towel and slice it in big rectangular 1/2 inch slices.
  2. Take a big bowl and rub the above sauce mixture on all the tofu slices and marinate it. Keep aside for 30 minutes.
  3. After 30 minutes , heat a tea spoon of oil in a non stick flat skillet/tawa and place the tofu slices. cook on both sides for 10 minutes or until brown . Take out the grilled tofu slices in a plate and let them cool. once they are cooled, cut them into thick fingers or stripes.
  4. Mean while boil 8-10 cups of water in a pan and once the water is boiled, add shredded cabbage. let it stay there for 3 -4 minutes and the drain the water. Place the cabbage under running water , and this way cabbage will be blanched.
  5. Now heat Oil in a Wok or a non stick pan and keeping the flame on high, add sliced onions.
  6. After a minute of stirring add garlic and give it a quick stir. Then add carrots, black pepper and stir fry them for a minute.
  7. Now add the blanched cabbage and the sauce mixture. Add little bit of salt and stir fry for 2 minutes. Turn off the flame now.
  8. For making the wraps, grease the Tortillas or rotis with little bit of oil and heat them. Place a single tortilla on a flat base and put the cabbage mixture in the center. Place two or three tofu stripes and wrap the tortillas. Tie them with a spring onion green and serve with Sauce or Chutney and enjoy.
Notes
  1. You can replace Tofu with Paneer or Chicken.
  2. Make sure you don't put cabbage in boiling water for too long, otherwise it will loose its crunch.
  3. You can use regular tortillas or Multi grain tortillas or even rotis. Adjust the spices and sauce according to your choice and be careful with salt as the sauces already have salt int them.
